A man who is a long time resident of Azezo, Gondar, a small town in northwestern Ethiopia has begun teaching a self-made course entitled “How To Be Happy in This Stressful World” and the number of people who are eagerly taking this course, given in his small house (which he affectionately calls ‘Dessasa Gojoye’), is growing weekly.

Jemberneh Atenaw, a 35 year old graduate of Unity College, in an interview he gave to CHEWATA’s reporter, explained what he was trying to accomplish.

”After I graduated from Unity College in Agricultural Science, I wasn’t able to find a job anywhere and stress began to play Dama with me! I started drinking, smoking, chewing some khat or CHAT, and I was doing weed on the side. The stress was unbearable. I found a job as a waiter at the Addis Hilton but after a month’s employment, they said I was ‘over-qualified’ for my position, which was Chief Dabo Gagari and fired me. The stress almost killed me after that. I decided right then and there that the best way for me to beat stress was to take the next bus out of Addis to Azezo and start living a simple stress-free life.”

”Stress Balege New!” says course teacher Jemberneh Atnaw

Among the techniques Jemberneh teaches people to be stress free are: get out of any big city and move into a small town like Azezo,

eat yeBekolo Nefro twice a day (right after breakfast and right before bed) and say “Yechinis Man Agegneto!”

, do not watch ‘that show called Meto Haya on TV’ and instead watch Alebe’s Show,

do not use electricity for cooking—electricity will add stress to the food that you cook and when you eat it stress will sit next to you wearing your Gabi,

and do not let being unemployed depress you instead as soon as you are unemployed think about the small town that you can move into to get away from “our common enemy called stress”.

Ato Jemberneh was recently awarded a certificate by the town’s mayor for “Unusual Community Service” and he proudly carries that certificate with him wherever he goes. CHEWATA’s reporter spoke to several people who took these stress seminars at Jemberneh’s house and they mostly gave it a thumbs-up evaluation.

”Stressen Arun Abelanew!!” said one very happy participant who was wearing a t-shirt that read, “My Wife Left Me for Her Wushima and I am Not Stressed!!”

”You see, the thing is support for me is growing daily. It is not just from people in Ethiopia,” said Ato Jemberneh. “Thanks to the massive lay-offs and unemployment in America, we are getting hundreds of members coming to Azezo every week to request that I help them kill stress. “.

Pointing to a young beautiful girl walking away from his seminar, Ato Jemberneh said, “you see Yachin Kechin Lej, she flew all the way from Washington DC to Addis Ababa and then took a bus to Azezo to take my “Stress Afer Yebila” course because she was laid off from 16 different jobs. She promised me that she will not kill herself and instead she will kill stress and bury it under my Desasa Gojo here in Azezo.”

One skeptical observer our reporter talked to in Azezo said grimly, “Jemberneh Kewusual! Jemberneh rasu Stress Fit new!!”
